My name is Dustin M. Graham, better known by my internet penname Materia-Blade. If you’ve made it here you’ve probably come in order to do a little bit of reading. Great! If so, I highly recommend clicking the Story page above. It will get you to the first chapter!
However, if you’d like to know a little more about this story and how it came to be, I’ll discuss that a little here.
The Solar Towers could almost be called a high fantasy. Ever since I was little I’ve always loved a good story and the greater and more epic, the better. I’d always thought I wanted to write something about knights and middle ages style stories due to a deep love of series such as The Wheel of Time, and Final Fantasy. More recent epics such as Wildbow’s incredible series Worm, gave me a home though, in the first person style of writing, and present day timeframes. These books and games, along with hundreds of others have all inspired me to write my own epics. I’ve put off building my own world for a long time. Probably too long, and I feel like its time I finally start.
The Solar Towers, is intended to be a series, depending on the ideas for other books that come to me, but Telilro is the opener, and will lay the groundwork for any story to come. Telilro in particular, has been a name tumbling in my head for more than a decade now. I never really had any drawn out plans for it but the name has been one that has always caused me to break into goosebumps for no real reason. I wanted to create a story to evoke that. Some of my older fans may note that I’m reusing the name from one of my old fanfics. Kudos if you know where its from!
This project is a product of NaNoWriMo. An attempt to force myself to write 50,000 words in one month. As such, expect the chapters to be quick and dirty. I don’t make many typos but I do make them and only have one editor so catching all of them will be difficult. Even so, I hope to turn it into a publishable work with a few months of editing and then continue on to write many more until I finally achieve my dream of reaching the national bestsellers list. But yeah. Baby steps.
This story will likely be significantly longer than 50,000 words. As anyone coming here from my fanfiction pages knows, I write long epics that tend to reach the 100,000 to 150,000 word range, and usually aren’t even done then. Perhaps this story will break that chain but I doubt it. Hopefully the jump from playing in other people’s sandboxes for so long, into one of my own, is smooth and painless, but you know the drill. With baby steps come teething issues, so please bear with me.
Wish me luck, and enjoy the story! If you’re feeling frisky, leave a comment or two. I can’t wait to hear from you!
